In order to have your wedding in Cyprus you need to have the following legal documents, which should be written or translated into Greek or English. Also, keep in mind gay marriage are not yet legal in Cyprus and that Cyprus does not recognize the marriage of same sex couples, which took place in a country that legally recognizes gay marriage.

Εssential documents:
You and your partner need to file an application to obtain a special marriage license with the wedding clerk at the Town Hall of the city where you plan to have your marriage, and you need to be in Cyprus for 3 working days (not including the day of your arrival, weekends, or public holidays) before the actual date of your wedding.
- Each of you needs to have a valid 10-year passport, which is not due to expire within the next 6 months and have photocopies of the pages related to the information in your passport.
Each of you needs to have your own 'Single Status Declaration*' which verifies that you are free to marry. Your Single Status Declaration is good for 6 months after the date that has been issued and should:
• include your name, address, nationality, religion, passport number and occupation • must state whether you are single, divorced or widowed • must state that you intend to get married in Cyprus • must be signed and stamped by a solicitor of your country, who will state 'Solicitor' on the document.
Scottish Nationals need to obtain a 'Certificate of Impediment' from the local registry office in place of the declaration.
Irish Nationals and passport holders require to have a 'Freedom to marry' Certificate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Irish Embassy in England.
If you or your partner is divorced, you need to have a copy of the 'decree absolute', and if Catholic, you need to have a copy of the marriage annulment.
If you or your partner is widowed, you need to have a copy of the death certificate of the deceased.
If you are under 18, you need to have a written parental consent that is stamped and signed by a solicitor.
If you or your partner has changed your name, you need to have a proof of name change by Deed Poll that should be stamped and signed by a solicitor.
Birth Certificates.
If adopted, you need to have your adoption certificate.
Anglican and Catholic weddings: At least one of the two must be baptized.
* The U.S. Government cannot issue such certificates. However, Cypriot authorities will normally accept the personal affidavit of marriage of a U.S. citizen’s, which has been sworn to before an American Consul. This service is provided by the U.S. Embassy.
Validity of Marriage Certificate:
A marriage certificate issued in Cyprus is a legally recognized document. In order to be valid in your country, the original Certificate of Marriage must be legalized with an ‘Apostille stamp’ for which you can apply from either the Ministry of Justice or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nicosia.
You do not need to register your marriage when you get home (this applies to the United States, United Kingdom and Australian citizens). The Marriage Officer will forward a certified copy of the notice of marriage to the local Embassy or Consulate of your country.
If you misplace your certificate and need a replacement, you will need to contact the Ministry of Interior in Nicosia. If you need more certified copies of your marriage certificate, you can apply to the Registration Department of the Ministry of Interior in Nicosia.
